3-0 away defeat..........

Swanage Reserves were once again on the road and this time made the short trip to Broadstone.

A depleted reserve team travelled with no Jack Miller or Cody due to unknown reasons and Jack Watson on the bench for the first team. Carvalho came in as centre back with Yerby to replace Miller, Taylor replaced Watson in goal and Jack Grace replaced Taylor up front.
The game started slowly with the hosts making the most of the sloping pitch and prevailing wind by hitting balls long to their big number 10. Swanage weathered a long spell of possession with Taylor making a few saves to keep it 0-0. Swanage carved out a good chance on 15 minutes when Peacock hit straight at the keeper from the edge of the box.
20 minutes gone and Broadstone should have been 1-0 up, a long cross came into the Swanage box with the Broadstone number 10 volleying against the post. The ball rebounded along the line and hit Will Bartley and just about went over the line, Taylor hooked the ball away and the referee waved play on.
On 40 minutes Broadstone made the breakthrough they probably deserved. A long ball was cleared high into the air by Carvalho, the ball swerved and wobbled in the air and Yerby half cleared the ball 6ft outside the box but it fell perfectly for the Broadstone number 10 to Volley into the net. I have to say it was a great hit ,perfectly placed from 25 yards out. Half time 1-0.

The Swans started the second half slowly, with the slope and the wind in their favour Swanage failed to make proper use of it with the ball running through to the opposition goalkeeper. After 10 minutes Troy came off and was replaced by Kelvin. Troy gave a lot of effort for the team, he wasn't well at the start of the game and full credit to him for turning up and trying hard.

As Swanage pushed forward Broadstone found more space in midfield and made good use of it. On 75 minutes the Broadstone number 11 ran clear of Carvahlho and carefully slotted under Taylor for 2-0.
The effort and work rate from Swanage in the last 20 minutes was poor and Broadstone took full advantage of this. On 80 minutes the Broadstone number 9 ran down the left wing and crossed into the box where the were 3 Broadstone players to put the ball into the net. 3-0.
The last ten minutes was all Swanage, Yerby headed just wind from a corner, the goalkeeper saving well from Bartley and Swanage having 2 penalties turned down. To be honest one would have been harsh on the defender but the second was stone wall but sadly not given. Had Swanage got anything from this game I think it would have been unfair on Broadstone who were the better side throughout. Full time 3-0.

Having 6/7 players away didn't help our cause, the one substitute we had was the linesman and we had no manager to give directions. Although workrate was poor at times I think we have the thank the players that did turn up for playing in unusual positions as we tried to put out a side to compete.

A real positive to our side was Charlie Brassington who was brilliant in midfield today. He made some great passes and didn't stop running from start to finish.

My MOM Charlie Brassington

Taylor, Russel, Moss, Yerby, Carvalho, Brassington, Bartley, Grace, Troy, Peacock, Grace.
